Why does doubling speed quadruple the energy?
Kinetic energy scales with the square of velocity. Doubling v multiplies v² by 4 — this is why high-speed crashes are disproportionately destructive.
Does this include rotational energy?
No — this is translational kinetic energy only. Spinning objects also carry rotational KE = ½·I·ω², which requires the moment of inertia.
