Board feet and stick counts
Board feet = thickness (in) × width (in) × length (ft) ÷ 12. Buy 5–10% extra for cuts, defects, and mistakes. Softwood dimensional lumber (2×4, 2×6) is nominal — a '2×4' is actually 1.5" × 3.5".
